January 20, 2017-- Dear Parents and Community Bingo Night! Tonight from 6 to 8pm
That’s right parents and kids you won’t want to miss this fun filled evening of Bingo and Pizza. We opted to not do the movie this time around so our families could enjoy playing a game with one another. Yum Yum will deliver the pizzas! Bingo cards are 500 CFA and the Pizza is cheap too. Come to the Elementary Pagoda - this event is for everyone: elementary kids, MS kids, HS kids, parents, and teachers. We have some incredible prizes!
High School Week Without Walls
In less than a month our 9th, 10th and 11th grade students will be heading out on their WWW experience. They will depart early morning on Tuesday Feb. 14th and return around 4pm on Friday 17th Feb. 9th Grade
We have reconfigured the 9th grade WWW trip and moved it from Keur Bamboung to further south in the Sine Saloum. The trip is centered around the Joal/Fadiouth/Ndangane area and its focus will be Senegalese history and literature and in specific the legacy of Leopold Senghor (Senegal's first president) who was born in Joal. As many of you know President Senghor was a man of letters in particular a poet. Our students will also be doing some service learning work at the Senghor museum in Joal. They will also have the pleasure of going on an overnight camping and pirogue journey and visiting some of the most lovely islands and places in the Saloum.
The 10th grade trip has been completely revisited. While Kedougou is a very interesting and rich area of Senegal to explore, the journey to and fro has proved to be really long for a four day trip. This year the 10th grade will journey to an area north of Thies, Ndem. Some of you may know the M'am Samba shop in Ngor that is supplied by a community of Baye Fall artisans. Ndem is the community where the items sold at M'am Samba are produced. Our students will have the opportunity to learn from the Ndem community about artisanal production of jewelry, cloth etc. As they work alongside the Baye Fall community in Ndem, they will learn about the special place the Baye Fall community occupies in Senegalese culture. Service learning in local schools will also be a big part of the experience. The students will visit Coki which is a large and modern Daara that some think provide a model for modernizing Daara education of Talibe children on a wider scale.
This trip remains essentially the same. The students will travel to to Somone, Hotel Africa Queen, where they will spend the bulk of their time working on IB Chemistry, Physics and Biology academic requirements and experiments. They will also have fun such as kayaking the mangroves.
Look out for an email at the beginning of February which will go into details on packing lists, chaperones, logistics and permission slips.
Semester 1 ended on January 18th. Teachers are busy compiling report cards which will be sent home in hard copy with your students on Wednesday January 24th. You can also access them via Focus. Please note any students in tuition arrears or with outstanding library books will not be issued a report card in hard copy or on Focus. Let John Wishart, Tech Director, know if you are having trouble accessing your student’s focus account.
Should you have any questions about your student’s grade, please email the teacher directly.
