Teranga Center News: The PYP/MYP Date Night

On Friday, November 3rd, the Elementary and Middle School hosted a PYP/MYP Parent Date Night from 5:30-8:00pm.  In the MYP session we talked about one of the golden nuggets of the MYP.  The students in the MYP learn HOW to learn. In the 8 subject groups the students learn content specific skills and they learn how to apply their knowledge in new and exciting situations.

This is a different education then I received in Middle School in 1982 where it was “drill and kill” and regurgitating information without ever really learning.  According to the World Economic Forum, the skills that employers will demand in 2020 are:

  • Service orientation

  • Judgment and decision-making

  • Emotional intelligence

  • Coordinating with others

  • People management

  • Creativity

  • Critical thinking

  • Complex problem-solving

  • Negotiation

  • Cognitive flexibility

The MYP will make our students marketable, interesting, and lifelong learners in an ever-changing world.

Thank you to all the parents who came out to learn about the MYP and stay tuned next week as we have the Introduction to the Diploma Program on Thursday evening at 6pm in the PAC.

The learning never stops at ISD!
