Secondary School Updates

Secondary Parents Coffee Morning

Thank you to all the parents who came out to the first Secondary Parents Coffee Morning on Tuesday, September 4. During this first meeting we shared some framing concepts for how we will structure the monthly meetings, with the main one - Teranga - being drawn from our Senegalese host culture. As we move forward in the Secondary School this year we are purposefully building our sense of community in order to make the Secondary School a learning environment that welcomes all. To this end, we are proactively trying to bring more Secondary parents into the teaching and learning of our students - to increase their knowledge of what we are doing and why, as well as to find more ways to build bridges to learning experiences beyond the walls of ISD.

At the parent meeting we solicited ideas about key topics parents would like to learn more about and we will bring this to life over the year, with dedicated sessions on assessment, report cards, as well as Service Learning and finding other ways to bring our local host culture into more of our students’ experiences.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 2 and we will have an earlier start to make it more convenient for parents to attend as part of their drop off. A main focus for this session will be talking parents through their Managebac accounts.

If you have any comments or questions, please contact Ms. Loria or Mr. Lennon.

Back to School Night

Our Back to School Night was a success based upon the parent turnout. Please know that we will reach out to solicit parent volunteers to form a small interest group about finding ways to refine the process. While parents reported positive feedback, we would like to ensure we are meeting parents’ needs for the evening. Once we determine the key purposes for such an evening, we will investigate different methods to realize the goal.

Email Addresses

We are in the process of verifying all parents’ email addresses and contact details. If you are not sure that you are receiving information from the school, please reach out to Anna Rosenberg in the Secondary Office directly and she will take your information.

Parent Managebac Access

We have moved to a new learning management platform, adopting Managebac as we become an IB World School. We will no longer use FOCUS as we did last year. Feedback on assessment, report cards, curriculum planning, attendance, Service Learning reflection, and even the uploading of student work to the IBDP will all take place through Managebac. Parents will have access to a portal and we are in the process of bringing this to life. We first have to ensure all parent emails are accurate and thereafter we will create parent accounts. We will then have information sessions to help you learn to navigate the software.

We will launch parent access to Managebac during the first week of October and when we do we will host a series of parent information sessions - the first of which will be on Tuesday, October 2.
