We are off to a great start in the Elementary School. I see lots of happy faces around campus and the classrooms are all abuzz with activity.
I am so proud of our teachers because they have thoroughly embraced the Primary Years Program. They are consistently using the PYP Learner Profile to inspire students to be: knowledgeable, courageous, balanced, caring, principled, reflective, open minded, thinkers, communicators, and inquirers. Their enthusiasm for sharing the PYP inspires me to share with you. Let’s get together next month so Brad, our PYP Coordinator, and I can share with you what the PYP looks like at ISD. Our presentation promises to be engaging for all learners! We know that some of you already have a good sense of what the PYP is so this presentation will include more specifics about how our students at ISD are benefitting. We will arrange for child care (pizza and a movie) so that you can attend the meeting on September 14th at 6 pm. Details coming soon.
Open House is right around the corner, and the teachers are looking forward to meeting with you. This will be an opportunity for you to meet with the classroom teacher to talk about general classroom expectations, management, and academics. You are also invited to visit with the specialists. Sept 14th is about getting to know the Primary Years Program and the September 6th Open House is more about getting to know the teacher, the class, and the general day to day functions of elementary school.
I know you are all excited to attend our Learner Profile Assemblies which will begin in Sept. We always meet on the last Thursday and Friday of the month. So September 27th will be the first assembly for our K-2 students and September 28th will be our first assembly for our 3-5 students. These assemblies take place in the elementary amphitheater. We begin at 8:30 and we will let you know ahead of time if your child will be recognized or performing. We look forward to celebrating the Learner Profile with you.
Just a reminder that September 21 is a ½ day so that ISD teachers can participate in important Professional Development. Students are dismissed at noon.
Goal Setting Conferences are scheduled for Sept 28. You are invited to meet with the teachers to learn about the specific goals your child and teacher are working on. This will be a great opportunity for you to learn how to best support your child’s learning.
As you can see, we are doing our best to provide a number of opportunities for you to learn about what is happening at school. Know that our ISD website, new and improved, will also offer more opportunities to learn about what happens at ISD.
