Notes from the Teranga Center: New Standardized Test in the MYP

Last Wednesday evening, January 13th, saw a meeting for Grade 12 parents and the information shared provided lots of excitement for the coming months as the Class of 2021 work and aim to finish their school careers well. Mock exams will take place during the 22nd-26th of February, details will be shared with students and parents as they are finalized early next week. This will mark the beginning of the final chapter of their ISD careers and will culminate in May with final DP exams, Senior Week, Graduation, and the Graduation Banquet.

For the MYP students in Grade 6 through Grade 9, we are looking forward to students sitting for the International School Assessment (ISA). This is an internationally recognized set of standardized tests we piloted with Grade 9 last year. Based on positive baseline data we have moved to deliver these literacy, mathematical and scientific tests to all students in Grades 6-9 as a replacement for the MAP tests.

We believe the tests are much more suited to students experiencing PYP, MYP, DP curricula, and are based on inquiry-based models of education. They are designed by the Australian Centre for Educational Research (ACER) and used by many international schools similar to ISD around the world. A quick guide is attached here as well as a list of participating schools. More information will be shared with students and parents in the following weeks. As ever we welcome any questions you may have.
