It was wonderful to meet with parents from across secondary school last week at our annual Back to School Night. As ever, information shared, and questions asked provided clarity as we work to support the development and understanding of all of our programs in support of our students.
A recent focus of the Diploma Program at ISD has been Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay, and CAS, known together as the "core." We are delighted to announce that we now have a core leadership team working to further bring to life all of these vital elements. Mr. Andrew Cartlidge newly arrived as a member of our Science department, and the current team lead for Grade12 is also our Extended Essay coordinator. Ms. Wendy Gifford, also freshly arrived as our Head of Department for Individuals and Societies, is also our Theory of Knowledge coordinator. Finally, Monsieur Boulestrau continues in his role as CAS and Service Learning coordinator. The collaborative work this team undertakes allows for rich learning experiences designed to tie all of the subject-based learning together, providing coherence to the IB curriculum.
In the spirit of learning, we have shared a video that was used recently with Grade 12 students in a Theory of Knowledge class. We hope it will spark some interesting conversations at home. Some initial focus for thought may relate to the role of emotion in learning, the idea of revisionist history and a focus on communities of inclusion rather than exclusion, isolation, or judgment.
