Notes from the Teranga Center: Community Connections

Community Connections Most Important

Welcome to Week 5 of online learning as we continue to focus on developing a truly diverse, creative and collaborative online learning environment for our students. As ever at ISD we have continued to experience a busy week of learning and are delighted to celebrate the engagement and positive attitudes of our students, parents and teachers during this time.

On Tuesday evening we were delighted to welcome forty-eight Grade 11 parents to an online parents evening, which included updated information about IB Diploma expectations in the context of online learning. In addition, our counseling team did a wonderful job of explaining the university and college application process as another important part of the Grade 11 and early Grade 12 experience. Katelyn Kearney and Jeff Neill provided clear and updated information about what students and parents may expect, where they can begin their research and how ISD will continue to support them in the coming weeks and months. Questions from parents were also well received and allowed us to engage in more detailed answers as required. Throughout the meeting what shone through clearly was the strength, support and joy that exists in this very special community we are all privileged to be a part of.

We continue to recognize the importance of providing learning resources for all of our families and have included this link in order for different information to be explored in regards how best we might be supporting our children at this time. What seems apparent from the emerging educational literature is the requirement for us all to be patient, connect with ourselves and our children as well as taking time to understand our own anxieties as well as those of our children. We are living through an unprecedented experience and encourage the careful educational suggestions in the image below:

We welcome all of your questions and concerns at any time. The Teranga Center team remains in the service of our students, your children and feel confident that the ISD learning community will come through each of the challenges presented to us in the coming weeks and months with a deeper sense of ourselves, our wonderful community and the support in education we all share with the common goal of holistic excellence.
