Notes from the Teranga Center: Alumni, DP Students and Parents Introduce DP to Grade 10

During the week of November 4th - 8th, our Grade 10 students were introduced to the IB Diploma program, possible option choices and a general overview of how the IB Diploma is brought to life at ISD.

A highlight of the week was our introductory evening for parents on Thursday, November 7th. As well as hearing in detail from the department heads, our community was treated to a live conference call from two of our 2019 graduates, live and online, calling in simultaneously, from Toronto, Canada and New York, USA. Tidiane and Fatima did a wonderful job of explaining just how beneficial their IB Diploma years were at ISD.

Additionally, for the first time at ISD, we had an interesting talk from Mr. and Mrs. Zoobi from their perspective as parents of a DP Year 2 student. Furthermore, Jasim Zoobi and Quincy Loria did a wonderful job of illuminating the ISD student experience of the IB Diploma in both Year 1 and Year 2 of the program.

The key messages, as our Class of 2022 embarks on selecting classes for next year, is to speak with teachers about possible subjects and levels at which they may be studied. Additionally, conversations with our College Counseling team about possible ideas and ambitions for university ambitions can help to frame the choice of higher and standard level subjects in line with interests, talents, enjoyment, ability, and passion.

Their completed option forms are due to be handed into College Counselors, complete with teacher and parent signatures on November 21st.
