Taylor Mali is our visiting poet. Here is a list of events during this week that you can put in your calendar.
Monday 8:40-9:30am: Opening Ceremony for reading week.
Tuesday 7:45-8:30am: Breakfast with Taylor Mali. Come meet the author, buy his poetry, and have some warm croissants, coffee, and fruit. Challenge yourself to Go Green and bring your own coffee cup.
Wednesday 6:30-8:30pm: Adult night in the library. Yes, this is our first Pints & Poetry night! Bring your poem - no longer than three minutes. Bring your small change to buy beer & wine. Appetizers provided. Come listen to Taylor Mali perform. I promise you will have a night to remember. Thank you, Dakar Brewers, for your contribution to the evening fun!
Throughout the week, Taylor Mali will run poetry workshops with our ISD students. I look forward to seeing the poems they create.
LAMINE DIÉMÉ

Lamine Diémé is our visiting illustrator. He has several books available in local stores such as Clairafrique and Librarie Aux 4 Vents. Lamine Dieme will work with PreKinder students through second grade students. Their activity this week includes StoryQuilting, the act of drawing story, assembling the parts of a story, and imagining a new ending to the story. His background is in early childhood education workshops, so we are fortunate to have a visiting illustrator with his skill and talent come and work with our students.
If you would like to check out his illustrations and his publications, go to his website. I can't recommend his works enough. They are flat. out. gorgeous! I try to remain unbiased in my communications to the larger community, but I guarantee that after looking at his website, you will be pleasantly surprised to see the breadth and scope of his skills as an illustrator. Who knew we had this diamond in our midst all along! And now we get to have him work with our students. I'm super excited to see how the StoryQuilting comes along. And in the next JagJournal, I will post the photos of the Quilts the students put together under his guidance.
