Library News: ISD Library Sleepover

I want to offer a big thank you to the families who have signed up for the ISD Library Sleepover. Thank you also to the teachers and parents who have volunteered to chaperone.

There is still time to sign permission forms and have your 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade children participate in the event. Click HERE and HERE for the two page permission form.

One question that parents and students still ask is about the cost: 11,000cfa. “What is this for?” or “Why is this so expensive?” The money will specifically be used in collaboration with the local school with which ISD works. It’s a boon for ISD students to have teachers who wish to bridge that privilege gap between our students and those of other local schools. This form of outreach enriches the lives of ISD students and fosters empathy. When students go to the local school, it is an opportunity for them to make meaningful connections with both the students and faculty of these other schools.

I will amplify the words of a wise colleague: “We don’t want to play Santa Claus.” So to that end, students visit the local school, network, make connections and ask the important question before the fundraising even begins: “What do you need?” The money that this library sleepover generates will go to those needs.

If you have any more questions, please drop into the library. We’ll be happy to answer any questions that you have.
