We are delighted to announce that Geoff Carter has been selected as our next Activities and Athletic Director, beginning in August 2022. The selection was made by Sandy McKenzie, incoming Director, Estelle Hughes, incoming Secondary Principal, and Kelly Chumrau, Elementary Principal. The search was very competitive and the decision was based on feedback from the community who participated in the final round of interviews as well as their own interviews. Geoff is currently in his second year working as the PYP Physical Education Teacher at ISD.
In previous years, Geoff was the Athletic Director at Colegio Alberto Einstein, in Quito, Ecuador, and also acted as the Head of Department in his previous position in Shen Wai International School in Shenzhen, China.
Geoff holds a Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, and Coaching Pedagogy from Southern Illinois University Jacksonville, USA as well as holding a PGCEi from Nottingham University, UK, and a Bachelors of Science in Sports Therapy from the University of Central Lancashire, UK. He is married to Gabriela Valarezo who works as a grade 2 teacher in the elementary school here at ISD.
Geoff is thrilled to come into the Athletics and Activities role next year. He is looking forward to listening to all stakeholders and undertaking the challenges that lie ahead in our post-COVID-19 world. Geoff is a strong advocate for the importance of movement and physical activity, and ensuring all students can pursue their passions in safe and supportive environments.
