Elementary After School Activities FAQ's

When does Term 1 (2019-2020) of ASAs start and end?

  • Term 1 will begin on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. The last day of ASAs will be November 22, 2019.

How will our children get to their ASAs in the afternoon?

  • ISD has a number of systems in place to ensure that all children arrive safely for their ASAs. An ASA supervisor will ensure that children are placed in lines for their ASAs immediately after school in the grassy area just outside of the administration building. The ASA providers will then meet the students to walk them to the location of their ASAs. At no point will children be unsupervised during this transition.

  • All elementary teachers at ISD also have records of which ASAs students should attend on a daily basis. Classroom teachers will be there to support this transition.

Where do we pick up our children for ASAs?

  • ***VERY IMPORTANT*** ASA providers will walk all students to the Elementary Pagoda near the administration building. All students must be collected from this site.

  • Please do not collect students from their classrooms unless you need to pick them up early (i.e. before the end of the ASA session). We must ensure that all students make it to the ES Pagoda before they are released to parents, drivers, or nannies.

When do we pick up our children for ASAs?

  • ***VERY IMPORTANT*** All students MUST be picked up from the ES Pagoda no later than 4:15pm. We cannot provide unlimited supervision for all elementary students, so it is vital that all families follow these expectations.

  • If the plan is for the student to play at school after 4:15pm, they must be supervised by a parent, driver, nanny, or some other guardian.

How do we pay for Outside Provided ASAs?

  • Families with students in ASAs hosted by Outside Providers will receive an invoice from our finance department. We will prepare these invoices after the second week of ASAs.

  • Failure to pay for an ASA may result in your child being removed from ASAs for the remainder of the term. Continued failure to pay for ASAs may result in a registration ban until all balances are addressed.

How do I change an ASA or remove my child from an ASA?

  • If you would like to remove your child from an ASA, change to a different ASA, or add an ASA, you must complete the Change Request Form.

  • Please note- If your child is in a paid ASA, you MUST complete a Change Request Form by Wednesday September 18th at 8:00pm. After this point, we will begin processing invoices for all paid ASAs.

Oh no! I completely missed ASA Registration! What should I do?

  • If you missed registration entirely, you will need to see Marieme Mbaye in the administration building (front office) to complete a late registration form. There is some turnaround time on processing these forms and many ASAs are already full. Still, we will do our best to ensure that all students who want to participate in ASAs will have the opportunity to do so.

What can I do to make sure I don’t miss registration again?

  • The next registration for Elementary ASAs will take place the weekend of December 7 and 8, 2019. We will advertise this registration online via email and by using posters around campus well in advance.

  • Please make sure you are receiving emails from ISD by communicating with the communications department (communications@faculty.isd.sn). If you receive the Jag Journal, then you will also receive emails regarding ASAs.

Will there be an ASA Assembly this term?

  • We are currently discussing different ways whereby families can experience the culminating products of the ASA term. We will communicate with all of our families in October about what this culminating event will look like.

What about Secondary ASAs?

  • Secondary ASAs operate a little differently than Elementary ASAs. Instead of having a single registration for the term, we will communicate when activities will meet and allow students to register themselves digitally and by speaking directly with the hosts of those activities.

  • For a number of reasons, the activities department is a bit behind on process Secondary ASAs. We hope to have information out in the community by Friday, September 13, 2019 with all activities slated to begin the following week. Please look for email communication about Secondary ASAs.
