This March 8th there will be a gala showcase of ISD’s Arts program. This will include the thesis exhibit of our visual art students, Higher Level solo performances of theater students and a performance by ISD’s Stage Band.
Ten Visual Art ISD students over the last two years have produced more than a hundred works of art that will be exhibited March 8th at the Dutch Residence in Fann as part of their Diploma Program Thesis Exhibition. The finished pieces show the diversity of our students and include photographs, prints, oil/ acrylic/ digital paintings, videos, drawing, sculpture, and assemblage. In almost every country, the IB final Art Exhibition is a highly anticipated event to celebrate the students’ hours of effort that they have put in over the last two years. This is a capstone project that not only represents 40 percent of their final grade but also is a chance to show the community what our students have been thinking about and how they see our future. IB Diploma Program Visual Art is not about the making of objects- this class is obsessed with ideas and culture. We hope that you enjoy it.
Similarly, four Diploma Program High-Level Theatre students will present a solo command performance this evening at the Dutch Residence. This is a product of their hard work over two years in the vigorous theatre program at ISD. They will be presenting pieces that emulate the work and theory of a famous theater theorist. Not only are they required to perform, but they will need audience feedback in order to earn their diploma.
The ISD’s famous stage band will play music in between theater performances.
IB Diploma Program Visual Art, Theatre, and ISD Stage Band are very grateful to Dr. Knobloch and Mr. Bird for their unwavering support of this show at the Dutch residence. We also owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the Government of the Netherlands, and the Ambassador and his wife, the honorable Mr. and Ms. Peters, for allowing this to happen in their home.
We are also thankful for the Parent Teacher Organization who has given us a generous grant for food and refreshments for opening night and will be helping with the event. Also thank you to the Thespian Society for their help running the show.
For security reasons, we need to know who is coming to this show by March 4th. If you have not received an invite, or have any other questions, please contact Nevdon Jamgochian, ISD Arts Department Head: nevdonj@faculty.isd.sn
