Director's Updates

1. Acknowledgement and Reconciliation Meeting

Thiaba Camara Sy, Chairperson of the ISD Board of Trustees, Dr. Nneka Johnson, ISD Director of Innovation, and I will host this meeting on Wednesday, October 15, at 5:00 PM GMT. Students, parents, alumni, and staff are invited to attend the meeting live. A recording will be distributed after the meeting for those who cannot attend. The session will have time for any participant who would like to speak or ask questions.

The Zoom link was sent to each group last Friday. The link will also be sent out on Wednesday morning.

2. Congratulations to World Food Program

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded the World Food Program (WFP) on Friday. A number of ISD parents work for the WFP. Congratulations to the ISD parents who work for the World Food Program. The award is a testament to the WFP and the other NGO’s who work to make the world a better place.

3. Calendar Reminder – October 22 and 23

Next week, Thursday and Friday will be half-days for students with dismissal between 11:45 AM and 12 noon. The teachers will be engaged in professional development activities related to diversity and inclusion, as well as online and hybrid learning programs.

4. Phase 2 of Reopening

This week, middle and high school students in the same grades will be able to interact together outside during lunch and breaks. They will need to wear their masks, except when eating, and physically distance. Elementary students will transition into this over the next couple of weeks.

If the situation in Senegal remains stable this week, students in the same grades will start having in-person classes in French, Spanish, and Math.

For more information about Phase Two, you can watch the recording from last week's Parent Town Hall meeting here.
