Director's Dispatch: Pool Construction Begins

The final phase of the athletic complex construction project will be the expansion of our pool. Years ago, when the plans for the Performing Arts Center and Athletic Complex were being developed, the students, parents, and staff felt strongly that the existing four-lane pool was too small. While an eight-lane pool would have been ideal, there was not enough space available, so we decided to go with a six-lane pool.

The pool area will also have a smaller child pool, a set of bleachers for spectators, and a storage area. The pool will have a hot water system to allow the pool to be heated in the cooler months. The PE and Activities Team has ordered additional equipment for the pool including a touchpad system for the automatic timing of the swimmers. A set of stairs connecting to the new gym will provide an area for staging swim meets. The pool area will have access to the changing rooms on the main level of the gym. The pool is separate from the gym area by a metal fence and gates.

The pool will close today for the next four to five months. The first steps will be the demolition of the old fitness room and draining the pool. Next, the contractor will excavate the site and begin building the larger pool. Then, the filtration and heating equipment will be installed. Finally, the bleacher areas will be constructed. Our goal is to have the pool ready for the start of the 2021-2022 school year and the fall swim season!
