Director's Dispatch: New Board & Administrators

At this year’s Opening Ceremony, we had the opportunity to introduce our new Board Chairperson, administrators, and counselors.

The ISD Board will be led by Birame Sock this year. She is the new Board Chairperson after serving on the Board last year. Birame brings a wealth of leadership experience from the private sector to the role. There are currently eight Board members. A ninth member will be appointed soon.

We are fortunate that most of the ISD administrators will be returning this year including principals Kelly Chumrau and Lorne Bird, Assistant Director Suzanne Wardini, and Business Manager, Ibrahima Fall.

All administrative vacancies were filled with internal hires. Jen Loria will serve as the Secondary Assistant Principal. She previously served as Middle School Assistant Principal and MYP Coordinator.

Wendy Gifford will serve as the IB Diploma Program (DP) Coordinator this year after teaching at ISD for the past 2 years. Wendy has experience working as an IB DP Coordinator at a previous school. She will continue to teach IB History. Denrol Carayol will be the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) Coordinator. Denrol has 5 years of experience working in the MYP and has been the Head of the Math Department at ISD. Mr. Caroyol will continue to teach in the math department.

Kofi Baffour moved from the elementary school to the middle school and will be the Middle School Dean of Students supporting the students and teachers with student behavior. He will also teach MYP Design and Technology.

We have expanded Dr. Nneka Johnson’s responsibilities this year. Her position has been elevated to be at the same level as the school’s principals. She will oversee the school’s accreditation process, non-IB professional development, and the library. Nneka will continue to provide leadership for the school technology program and the integration of Design Thinking into the curriculum. Dr. Johnson also serves as Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator for ISD.

ISD is fortunate to have seven counselors this year. In addition to the five school counselors, ISD has two mental health counselors who will provide on-going child and family therapy.

Mary Guiliani, Mental Health Counselor, and Eileen Knobloch, Middle School Counselor return to the same roles as previous years.
