This Tuesday, Dr. Alan Knobloch hosted his biannual Director’s Coffee to give parents an update on everything happening at ISD today and in the future. The update was followed by a Q&A, where parents were given the opportunity to ask our Director questions about the school.
Topics covered ranged from the building of the new Performing Arts Center (PAC) and Gymnasium to staffing updates for the 2018-19 year.
One important topic was the continued expansion of the Service Learning program in the coming year.
“One of the requirements of the MYP and the PYP is called ‘Service through Action.’ All the way from little kids through to middle school, students have to take their curriculum and find authentic ways to use that out in the community.”
Dr. Knobloch expanded upon ISD’s Robotics Team, which exemplifies the core tenants of Service Learning. The ISD Robotics Team, headed by ISD teacher Micah Hall, works with local Senegalese students every week to teach them coding and robotics. It is “connected to what they learn in their technology classes here and their after school activities… it’s authentic French use and it’s transfer of information with Senegalese students.”

Thank you to all the parents who were able to join us for this week’s Director’s Coffee!
