Board News: October Meeting Recap

Greetings from the ISD Board of Trustees!

We held our October Board meeting on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.

The Board started with an impressive presentation from student Chinwe Bruns on amplification of the student’s voice from the students’ perspective in our continued efforts to ensure all members of our community feel heard, valued and respected. The Board also had a second presentation from the school’s talented medical team that provided insight on how the team works, as we strive to continue keeping the community safe.

We then looked at and approved the proposed revisions to the capital budget for 2021-2022. The revisions will give the school the needed resources to continue operating effectively.

Additionally, we had a second reading of the updated policy on student withdrawal and expulsion which now specifically lists sexual harassment of any kind as unacceptable behavior at ISD which could lead to suspension or expulsion. This change is in a deliberate effort to address matters raised by the students surrounding this sensitive topic.

Also, the discussion of growth capacity continued and the Board will, under the purview of the Growth Committee, continue to look into, and action, viable options to enable us to serve our community in the best way possible.

Lastly, the Board commended the Administration on the recently concluded Secondary Principal Search which resulted in the confirmation of Ms. Estelle Hughes as the Incoming Secondary Principal starting in the 2022 – 2023 school year.

The next Board meeting will be held in person on Wednesday, November 17, at 5:45 pm.

Kind regards,

Birame SOCK
