Board News: February Recap

We held our February Board meeting on Thursday, February 18, 2021.

The meeting started off with a second reading, discussion, and approval of the 2021 – 2022 Budgets. This is a culmination of a four-month process that takes into consideration the school’s needs for the next school year.

The Board also had the second reading and adoption of the school’s Final 2019-2020 Financial Statements which were certified without qualification by our independent auditors. This clean audit opinion means the school’s financial systems are robust and in good health.

An amendment to the audit policy also had its second reading and approval. This policy amendment refines the process through which the school selects external auditors to certify the robustness and dynamism of our internal financial processes.

Based on a recommendation from the Governance and Development Committee, the Board revisited the discussion on a proposed change in the bylaws to be put to the vote by the association. The proposed change is one that will allow the Board to select and vote for up to two honorary Board Members when needed skillsets are lacking in the Board composition at any point in time.

And lastly, based on feedback from the community, the Board had a first reading of the 2021 – 2022 academic calendar. Due to the time constraints but to meet the Board’s Policy of discussing all matters twice before voting on them, the Board met again on March 4th, 2021, had a second reading, and voted to approve the provisional 2021 – 2022 school calendar. This approved calendar outlines the start and end dates of the coming school year as well as all the major holidays. The final calendar with all other school events and programs included (professional development days, parent-teacher conferences, etc.) will be approved before the end of the current school year.

The next Board meeting will be held virtually on Thursday, March 25th at 6:00 pm

Kind regards,

Chair, ISD Board of Trustees
