A Magic Gourd Exhibition

Janelle Trinchitella and Nancy Magnus used the inspiration of Baba Wague Diakite’s children’s book, The Magic Gourd, for an art project. If you didn’t get a chance to come to the library before the holiday to see the display, you can still borrow the picture books by Baba Wague, and see a mural he created for our library space.

Parents, teachers, and the community in general had the opportunity to come to the library and see the Magic Gourds. The question students answered was, “What would you put in your magic gourd?”  Most answers included love, food for poor people, or money for the needy.

The art exhibition was a wonderful celebration of student work, appreciation of local culture, and Baba Wague Diakite’s children’s books. If I had my own magic gourd, I would also fill it with a love for books and reading.
